Reuse is a word I like to use

I don't like throwing old clothes out because I might want to use the fabric to make something else...one day.  I don't like throwing my scraps out because I might want to make a tiny patchwork quilt...one day. I don't like throwing out beautiful wrapping paper because its beautiful and I might want cover some draws with it!

You get the idea! So, I have made some bags from some old wooly jumpers!

The jumpers were felted in the washing machine first so that they weren't all flopy and stretchy.

Add a bit of liberty and voilĂ !

Some nice little felt bags.

This one sold at a show I did but...

This purple one and the brown one are availible in my etsy shop!

The sun has got me sewing!

HIP  HIP  HIP  HOORAY!!!!

LADIES!

Lots of lovely ladies!

The big bunch of ladies are trying out some new cord - it's natural hemp and it comes in some nice colours that really suit the liberty fabric. I think the ladies like their new cord!

NECKLACES

I'd been thinking about doing some small stitching for a while and here's what happened.
Some people think it's a mouse, I'd like it if it was a mouse but...

...it's a seed pod from a little sketch I did.  (It can be a mouse if you like)

The fabric is liberty, it covers a small stone and is backed with soft leather, the cord is a chain of crochet cotton with a mother of pearl button.

A NEW BAG!

A lovely green fabric, beautifully soft and strong. Applique liberty print, plaited liberty print and one of my dad's old shirts as lining fabric. It took me a while to find the right button but I think the little tweeter is perfect!

and ... A NEW TOP

More Liberty print!

London with my middle sis!

My sister came to visit earlier this year with her family. They live in New Zealand where she runs The Little Craft Store. They flew into London to do a bit of sight seeing with the boys so I arranged to meet them to get in as much time as I could being the naughty little sister! We had such good fun! And even managed to visit some amazing craft shops!

Ray Stitch on Essex Road

What a lovely shop & Cafe - Haberdashery & Pastries - that's my kind of heaven!
Their web site has lots of lovely pics for you to look at!

I bought some nice bulb pins for attaching lables to my products and some very fine entomology pins for when I need to hold something delicate in place.

I also bought some lovely thick ribbon to use as bag straps (I did get a beautiful peach colour too but I was too egar to use it and forgot to photograph it!)

VV.Rouleaux - Has more ribbon than you can dream of!

I only bought a small selection as I too have more ribbon than you can dream of!!

Liberty - last but by far means not least!

Those who know me know how much I love to use (or simply own a big stack of!) Liberty fabric. It is so pretty!

I got this lovely belt buckle...

...and a new Liberty bag!

This is my old Liberty bag which has held the same sewing project for...lets just say a very long time!

I do love this hexagon patchwork and I hope one day it will turn into my favourite item of clothing!

20/3/11 - A letter from a friend

A Letter from a Friend

Who doesn't like to receive a letter from a friend? No-one! I love it when I see it there on the mat and instantly you see the hand writing an know exactly who the sender is. I like to get settled on the sofa before opening said letters, sometimes I'll even take my coat off but often I just can't wait that long! On Thursday I received a letter from my friend Jill (Jill lives 223.22 miles away in London, I often wish I could squeeze her hand and give her a hug). She had sent the letter to my parents house so it was a lovely suprise to find it sitting on the shelf in the hall when I popped round for a visit. There was no time to find a seat, I opened it standing up and read it as fast as I could whilst answering quick fire questions about my day from mum. In her letter she thanked me for a gift I had sent her, a little pouch I made using fabics bought in New Zealand at Christmas. Also in her letter were words of encouragement directed towards sewing and my empty Etsy shop! Often it is easy not to act on words of encouragement, my usual is, "I can't belive it's monday again, I havn't done any sewing all week!" But some time those words of encouragement can come at just the right time!! Thank you Jill xx
Here are some photos of things I have made over the past few months and with any luck those words from Jill will stay ringing in my head and my Etsy shop will get an update by the end of the week!!

This wee hat was made for a tiny fellow called Joel.

Here he is with is dad trying to hold him still!

I made this cusion for my sister Fiona for Christmas, I love it, it's like a big French pie!

This picture was taken at my other sisters house where we opened our presents, it matched so well with her sofa cutions she wanted to keep it.

I made this little guy a couple of weeks ago, I like his masive beak! The seam of the beak has fallen really well, it makes him a bit of a grumpy look about him (probably because of that bit of girly fluff I put near his tail or maybe its the pink spots)

I made this fella the same day, I gave him a tummy section so he's fatter and he's got wire legs covered in ribbon. He can't stand up because he is too top heavy but he's very good at leaning against things!

I study accountancy two nights a week at college and three weeks ago I had the joy of a half term, no college for a whole week!! So I took advantage and went with my mum to her weekly patchwork class where we began making a cushion. Mum had told me what we needed to take along and we were given full instructions when we got there.
(Did you spot my litte mice slippers? They have sneeked into the bottom of the picture!)

The fabrics in the centre were chose to match the colours in the outside fabric which is from my childhood cutains. I adored them as a child and told mum she could never throw them out as I would find a use for them one day! And now that day has arrived!!
I will post further pictures as it progresses.
Thanks again for the encouragement Jill, I've really enjoyed tapping away at my computer keys today x

I did say no promises, but hopefully I'll do better this time!

I spent a while not sewing in Manchester.

But now I'm back in Lovely Kendal and I'm happy to say that the making has begun again!!

I have been making...

...some minature bunting!

...Some more ladies, ready to be posted to a friend.

(I love how their faces are always different)

And...

... I have started a bit of a big project, well big for me. I'm making a floor cusion, it is going to have a material bottom and a top made of crochet circles. Above are my balls of wool and my first 3 circles! I will keep you posted on its progress!

My sister gave me this bag which she made and untill last week I could not find a use for it, then I bought all my wool, it's perfect!

She has just opened a haberdashery shop in Auckland, New Zealand, I'm the most jelouse little sister ever! Here is a link to her blog http://www.thelittlecraftstore.blogspot.com/ even if your can't get to Auckland its nice to have a look at.

Bye for now x
